Drums

Originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, John began playing the drums aged 11, turning professional on leaving school at 16. After playing many cabaret clubs, cruises and summer seasons, he moved to London in 1985.

He became a respected member of the 'session community' covering all aspects of the music industry, accompanying artists such as Robbie Williams, Cliff Richard, Neil Sedaka, Georgie Fame, The Corrs, Hot Chocolate, Colin Blunstone, Ruby Turner, Jimmy Barnes, James Belushi and "Pop Idol" Gareth Gates.

John joined Earthband in 1996 (see PE#13 for details of 'The Audition') for the Soft Vengeance Tour. After nearly 5 years he left the band in the spring of 2000.

He also toured with Peter Green's Splinter Group, The Moody Marsden Band (Whitesnake), Robert Hart (Bad Company) and Dave Greenslade.

John has recorded music for over 100 TV/Film titles including The Fast Show, Spitting Image, Not the 9 o'clock News, Harry Enfield, Jane Horrocks, 2000 Acres of Sky, Game On, Celeb, Gimme Gimme Gimme, My Hero, Film 2001, Happiness, Aunties Bloomers, KYTV, Kevin & Perry Go Large, The Real Thing and The Search for John Gissing starring Alan Rickman.

He also played in the house band on The Lenny Henry Show, Man O' Man, The Country Music Awards, Miss World, Noel's House Party, The Dame Edna Everage Show and TFI Friday.

Other ventures include jingles for McDonald's, British Telecom, Coca Cola, Fuji, KFC, Vauxhall Cars, Andersen Consulting as well as a variety of educational projects such as Don Airey's Rock School, Workshops at The London Musician's Institute and demonstrations at The British Music Fair.

In 2002, John relocated to Australia. He has been touring with Joe Camilleri (The Black Sorrows), Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges, Gerard Maunick, Kelly Newton Wordsworth and Grammy Award winner "Lucky Ocean's" Zydecats.

He is currently setting up his own drum school and writing the "Drummer's Bible", the brother book to Paul Westwood's "Bass Bible" which he recorded in 1995, it is now published in four languages and sold worldwide. Please contact: johntrotter1@yahoo.com.au
