Manfred Mann's EarthBand on the Road - June 2003
Solingen tonight ! 5 Angels in our hearts :-)) and "Technical checks"
Posted by Roland on June 05, 2003 Hi dear Fans :-)
just back from a marvellous, yeah FANTASTIC and powerful gig :-)) Keep on rocking ! Roland
(hopefully I didn't bore you with my a little bit long report...)
The boys were at their best ! Top Audience, really great mood :-)
I arrived the venue a little late (about 7.15 p.m)- sorry Reinhard and Erika - but still early enough ;-) Caught the tickets for me and Reinhard and Erika at 4 p.m. TODAY (!)...3 of leaving 6 ...
And it was worth each Cent (like ever I guess ;-)...)We just moved onto the front row, where we met Thorsten, Birgit, David and Dietmar and
Martin too.Shortly before the gig started, Ian changed the setlist. So Dancing was replaced by Angels ;-)
The intro starts with a little delay at 20.15 , then Shelter and the mood of the band (especially Manfreds) became better and better :-)..."Castles"
with a great Solo-part by Mick...oh what a wonnderful playing ...you're a magician :-)...he licked his finger and tapped 6times on the strings
:-)...Then "Martha" with a fnatstic Solo by manfred, what a power this MANN have, incredible !
The audience was cooking (not only 'cause the high temperature in the hall)...then "Spirits" ...ooh great the duet Mick/Noel...Wild Billy was a crazy cat...then the famous laughter (you know it from the record) did by Noel.
Then in Carol, Manfred didn't sing his whole part, because of a little bit too loud feedback from the audience I guess. And since that song I guess
(please correct me, if I'm wrong..)Noel was barefoot . He just bended to David in the fronzt row and ran his hands over Davids head :-)...
Then the great "Tickertape" began and the Angels-Theme was performed very deep and with much power !
Then the one and only "Father" started his show :-)...What a "battle" inside :-)...A great Manfred has had so much power tonight, that Mick couldn't
"beat" him ...although he did his very best ;-)...Two great musicians burned a great firework :-)...It's nearly impossible to find the right words for
that !The audience have done a great job in singing its part while Noel and Mick was conducting, especially whilst the following Redemption Song .
Just before starting there was a little (funny) break ;-9...Manfred told us, that was a "Technical check" ...so Mick took his acoustic guitar and start
to fiddle around ;-)...Steve sat down on the stage in front of the drums ...Noel did the same...an Manfred just sat behind his machines ...then the
song started an Noel gave us the song of freedom with the very help of the audience :-)..There was so much fun on the stage, you could feel a
special vibration...(that's my opinion...)...So then the audience sung the song to the end and Noel was very impressed I guess ;-)...The fantastic
Demo Man turned into the "She was"-Theme great as ever ;-)...For me it could take 15 minutes ...then of course "Blinded" and lately now the last in
the hall (estimated filled with nearly 80 people) was cooking ;-)..Great performance by each member...and the last verse was sung by the audience,Noel didn't need to sing it to the end, wonderful ;-)
The first "encore" was "Davy"...but SUCH a Davy-performance you've never listened to before...Manfred was so exhausted in playing his
solos...also the bandmebers wer so impressed ;it was like a little "battle" between Mick and Manfred but with incredible power and sounds of Manfreds keyboards...UNBELIEVABLE, maybe someone else can write down his impressions on it...
The the second "encore" just with the instrumental "For you"...it sounds much better for me like in Münster , but you expect, that CHT came on the stage and begins to sing...
The end of the gig - as ever - with the Mighty Quinn, but tonight with some very special :-)...so you can imagine, how good Manfred's mood was
(like Thorsten has said afterwards)...In the beginning,Manfred just play the notes of ...Do wah diddy ...great :-)...a very special evening.
This marvellous gig then ended at 22.10 after nearly 2 hours of great, fantastic music :-) The best gig ever (for me...)
I guess everyone who was there was lucky to be a witness tonight :-)
A few words to Geoff Dunn: A powerful and great drummer, a very good chose , hope he 'll stay FOREVER !!
After drinking something and helping Ian with the suitcases (Ian's "slaves" were Thorsten and Martin ;-)...)we left the hall at about 22:30 .
Thorsten had taken much photos and I hope that all the fans who will be tomorrow in Siegen, then in Lübeck (Hey Stefan and Inga, enjoy each
second !)and on the Whitsun-Festival in Obermarchtal (Hi Panther hope it will be with Angels and minimum so great like tonight)have a great and joyful time with MMEB :-)
Posted by Paul on June 09, 2003 Hi :-) It has been 10.03 p.m. when Manfred Mann entered stage with his brillant intro on the keyboards. Followed
by his band, all in the best mood on a sunny day. The setlist was that we know from the last weeks, this
time no "Angels" but "Dancing". "Spirits" is now was perfect as it can be at all, it's really a must to hear this new - old - song.
Only one hour from our home the so called "HiTSUN Festival" at Obermarchtal, a very romantically village on
the Schwäbische Alb (Southern Germany), started at 8 p.m. with the supporting band "Anyones Daughter". Yes this is the famous band of the past and in the with 1000 people filled tent they presented a
powerfully program of 90 minutes old and new songs. And the crowd was now hot for MMEB.
The fight between Mick Rogers and Manfred Mann wonderfully, this time both were the winner including a boiling crowd that was only one meter away from a deep stage. Noel jumping around, shaking with each of
the people and joking with Manfred - it's every time a great pleasure to meet you :-))) Geoff on drums in the background, you are responsible for the great rocking Earth Band all of us love, thanks to you :-)
Mick playing his guitar with hands and legs, unbelievable what's possible with a guitar, and the sound was brillant again. Steve on base guitar with an excellent show is now more and more on vocals and he did a very good job too.

Thanks to MMEB and the whole crew that had to come over from North (Lübeck) to South Germany which needs more than 10 hours by bus - see you in 10 days at Rankweil.
Photos of the great show you can enjoy in the late afternoon on my website www.bossenmaier.de
Pink greetings ;-))

Posted by Paul on June 21, 2003 Hi :-))
another fantastic gig perfect organized by the wonderful team of "Altes Kino" started on Thursday at Rankweil / Austria under the huge basilica
with a very special scenery. The crowd of about 500 people enjoyed the concert as we did, setlist of last weeks, again Castles and no Angels.
And the band in a very good mood - take a look to the photo highlights on my website www.bossenmaier.de - follow the navigation on the left "Manfred Mann" - "Fotos" - "Rankweil". Pink greetings ;-)

Dinslaken, 28.06.03 - MANN without hat and much sweat ;-)
Posted by Roland on June 30, 2003 Hi dear Fans ;-) with a short delay (due to familiar circumstances), I'll give you my impressions of another great and wonderful gig.
Thank you MMEB for this fantastic evening :-)... After filling our water-stores we were going home at about 11:30 with lucky smiles ;-) Keep on rocking ! Roland (hope you weren't bored...)
The "Stadthalle" is a nice hall with some stairs and a few tables inside it (seems to me very strange...)and I guess it was filled wirt nearly 700-800 people on this very HOT evening.
I arrived at the venue at about 17.15 at met at first Wolfgang who was so kind to get the ticket for me. And also Thorsten & Birgit (Yes, those
waitresses were a little bit indisponated ;-)...) and at the entrance Reinhard & Erika we've met there. So the run to the first row could be started ;-)...
Just arrived there, a nice surprise: Karin and Thomas were there too (good to see you again ;-)..)
The support band (the local band "Holtbridges") started at 7:30 p.m. and played songs from the Stones, Santana, The beatles and The Police. They
were quite good (4 guitars, 1 Bass, 1 "keyboarder") maybe they were all teachers (like Thorsten noticed). One of those supports that are really good, they even have to give an "encore"...
But now finally the 5 angels entered the stage at about 21:05 with the new intro introducing Manfred with a short solo and then all came out an Shelter began, very deep and with much more feeling (for me) than in the former gigs this year.
The "Castles" with so much power and passion and a guitar-solo by Mick, only one word : INDESCRIPTABLE :-)) !! He tapped with one finger and
counted then till 5 on the strings on the guitarneck and began his magic-performance ;-)..The audience were fascinated and impressed.
The heat but also the band increased from minute to minute ;-)...Mr. Mann was "topless" nearly the whole gig!
Martha with a marvellous solo by Manfred and Noel in bestform instead of the very great heat !
The Spirits with the duet of "Wild Billy"-Noel and "Killer-Joe"-Mick and such great solos ...Mick you might be from another star ;-)
Carol with an outstanding solo by Mick who gave us the "chevy-sound" (please correct me, if I'm wrong..)and played "over his head" and onlyon the neck-Strings" unbelievable !!
This time "Angels" again and the "tickertape" came out of the deepest depths ;-)...what a scenery with very dark red and the deep voice of Noel
and then the alternated counting of the angels by Mick and Noel ..YOU ANGELS YOU !!
The last sounds were getting over in the one and only Father and before the battle began, you could see Manfred, who sat down on the bottom
and wiped his sweat awaywith a towel, yes the temperatures were very high instead of the fan for him...
The battle was another highpoint and this time I guess, Mick were the winner, but of course the fans were ;-)...In between Manfred has
"forgotten" that Mick was a part of this "battle" so Mick has to wave his hands to him and then "answered" him in his way ;-)
Meanwhile Noel has undressed his feet :-)...and then whilst playing Redemption after a fiddling performance by Mr. Rogers on his acoustic guitar,
he was a little bit "disappointed" because he was saying: "Oh you really don't like to sing this song I guess"..No this was not true, so the help from
the ausdience came immediately ...but for me this time Redemption wasn#t really impressive...
Then the wellknown Demo-man with a very special solo very close to the front row by Mick...and then Noel sat down on the stage just in front of
a girl and gave her an autograph (maybe in her neck...;-) ?)...
She was ...were another fantastic highlight :-))..this time with very long mogg sequences :-)...and it seemed to me that Manfred had enlarged the
time until you recognized the sound of Blinded :-)...For me he could enlarge She was to 10 Minutes ...Steve on the bass also great ( he has had a little bit difficulties with the sound I guess...)
The whole hall was cooking during Blinded, of course ;-)...and Noel let the audience work for him. At the end of this song the whole stage was full of fog with yellow light !!
Then the first "encore" Davy with a little battle in between again :-))...Ooh Manfred what a fantastic sound-firework you've celebrated ;-)...Sounded like a cryin' bird or eagle I guess :-))and Mick answered in his way again ;-)...
Then the second "encore" with the instrumental "For you", this time much more powerful than in the last gigs I saw ;-)...Mick just melted with the
audience ;-)...and it fits more and more for me although I still think it is a song that must be sung...
The great end (nearly 2 hours could be very short...) with Mighty and the fantastic Geoff Dunn :-))..I hope he will stay forever !!...The evening
ended with the voice-lessons by "Prof" Noel McCalla he repeated it twice :-)and then after the "Smoke on the Water" the band left the stage but not our hearts and minds :-)
Dear norwegian Fans: Enjoy your refreshment I promise you, it will be incredible, it will be fantastic, the band is better than ever !!
Hope to see many of you in Düsseldorf,my hometown ! I'll look for more clear informations about that gig (seems to be a FREE gig!).
