Shona Laing 1981 - 1982

Vocals

Shona was born in New Zealand in 1955 and from her early teens spent much of her time writing and practicising song s at home. By the late 1970's she had moved to England where she was to stay for seven years. During this time she was picked up by Manfred after he heard her single 'Don't Tell Me' on Radio 1. Shona featured prominently on the tracks, "Eyes of Nostradamus", "Third World Service" and Demolition Man" on the "Somewhere in Afrika" album and on the often talked about single "I Who Have Nothing". Shona left the band before the corresponding tour.

In an interview with Manfred a few years ago, he described Shona as a great singer with a great voice. At the time he could not see her as part of a live touring band, and as we know, in the end Chris Thompson returned to complete the album and go on tour.

A full history of Shona's career including reviews of her album releases can be found in Steve Ward's excellent articles in Platform End Issue 19 and Issue 20 - Back Copies available.
